A Cervia, Milano Marittima e Pinarella
It is regarded as one of Europe’s largest open-air exhibitions. Every year, delegations of gardeners from all over the world transform the city into a vast botanical museum, featuring spectacular and often surprising floral displaysi.

- The event was launched in 1972 as a tribute to the gardeners of Munich.
- Some artworks remain on display throughout the summer, becoming part of the urban landscape.
- Each edition has a different theme: in 2026, the focus will be on ‘Nature and the Future’, with installations that combine botany and design.
The Salt Storehouse – Salt Warehouses, Cervia
First half of May
An event that captures the true spirit of Cervia. The ‘rimessa’ is the time when the sweet salt is prepared for the season, featuring historical re-enactments, guided tours and tastings.
Just having a look around… Cervia salt is known as ‘sweet’ because it contains very little residual bitterness. It was so highly prized that it was used as a diplomatic gift between nobles and popes.
Kite Festival – Pinarella
Late May
A colourful event much loved by families. Kite flyers from all over the world send giant, acrobatic and spectacular kites soaring into the sky.
Just having a look around… Some kites are over 20 metres long and require teams of 4–6 people to operate them.
Via del Sale Long-Distance Cycle Race – Cervia
Date to be confirmed, in May
One of Italy’s most popular cycling events, attracting thousands of participants and featuring routes that wind through the seaside, pine forests and hills of Romagna.

- The race began in the 1990s as a local event and now attracts athletes from all over Europe.
- The sports village on the seafront is a lively meeting place even for those who don’t cycle.
Cuttlefish Festival – Cervia
Date to be confirmed, in May
A food festival celebrating one of the signature ingredients of seafood cuisine. Stalls, traditional recipes and folk music bring the fishing village to life.
Just having a look around… The most popular dish? Cuttlefish with peas, a traditional peasant dish from Cervia, now regarded as a timeless classic.
